SolidWorks Tip of the Month...

SolidWorks Design Library Tech Tip...

The Design Library tab is located in the  Task Pane.  The Design Library provides a central location for reusable elements such as:

Parts
Assemblies
Annotation favorites
Blocks
Library features
DXF/DWG files

TIP:  You can use the “Design Library” to insert a series of holes.  It may seem time consuming to add the sketch relationships and dimensions necessary to place them correctly into your part and maintain your design intent.  Click on the image (above right) to see a short avi example of how to use using this feature.  Notice there is no need to manually add dimensions or relationships.  We simply use drag and drop functionality!  (Note: If you have trouble viewing the avi example, you can click here to download it.)

EXAMPLE:  Simply click the image (above right) to see an avi example of this library feature.  You can also click here to download the feature to add to your own library.

Looking to Automate areas within your design process???

We get the same question quite often, can I "program SolidWorks" to help me automate my process?  The answer is yes, and DriveWorks can help you make that job even easier.

What is DriveWorks you might ask?  DriveWorks is a Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) tool that lets you capture and re-use the rules needed to specify, design, manufacture and engineer to order. DriveWorks lets you automate repetitive tasks and can be easily integrated with other company systems such as; PDM, MRP or ERP.  Here are a few items that DriveWorks helps companies conquer...

Automate repetitive tasks to save time and money
Produce manufacturing data automatically
Increase speed and accuracy of output and response to customers
Allow non-technical personnel such as sales department (and even customers) to quote, specify and configure product whilst maintaining your design & engineering integrity

**If you would like to learn more or to see a custom demonstration of DriveWorks please contact either Scott Byrne (West & Mid Michigan) or Michele Christensen (East Michigan).

You can also take a tour of DriveWorks Express by clicking here.

Sign up to participate in a SolidWorks Hands On Test Drive at our office and receive a FREE 90 day license of SolidWorks.

At DASI Solutions, we don't believe in just handing out software and hoping you can find the tools you need.  The Hands On Test Drive exposes you to the basic functionality of SolidWorks and familiarizes you with the interface to help you get the most out of your trial period.

By attending this session, you will learn how to build 3D Parts and Assemblies and Create 2 Dimensional Drawings as well as learn the benefits of Parametric Solid Modeling and SolidWorks' Powerful Tri-Directional Associativity.  This allows designers to maximize their productivity and minimize errors typical of Old, 2D drafting systems or Hard to Use 3D systems.

Come join us and see why SolidWorks is the Standard in Mainstream 3D Solid Modeling.

Looking for a free viewer for AutoCAD and SolidWorks files?...Look no further.
Download eDrawings - Free Viewer for eDrawings, SolidWorks and AutoCAD files Download free eDrawings Viewer software to view, print, and review all types of eDrawings files.  In addition, eDrawings is a free AutoCAD® Viewer (DWG & DXF) and free SolidWorks® Viewer for parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Download eDrawings - Free Viewer for eDrawings, SolidWorks and AutoCAD files Eliminate the need to upgrade AutoCAD licenses just to be able to share work and collaborate with other AutoCAD users. DWGgateway™ is the first free data translation plug-in that lets AutoCAD users work easily with DWG files created by any version of AutoCAD software.

To download and try DWG Gateway, simply click the button to the right.  All we ask is that if you find DWG Gateway valuable, please forward this e-mail or a link to the website to your friends and colleagues.

The DWGeditor is for SolidWorks customers who use AutoCAD® to edit or maintain existing DWG files. The DWGeditor provides a low risk, low cost alternative for making those quick edits of DWG files in their native format, using a familiar user interface. Unlike AutoCAD, the DWGeditor is available without costly upgrades from multiple vendors.

NEW! Standalone DWGeditor is Now Available

The End User License Agreement (EULA) has been changed to give SolidWorks Subscription Service customers a license to install and use 3 copies of the DWGeditor software for each license of the SolidWorks® software they own.  A standalone version of DWGeditor is now available in the SolidWorks 2005 SP2 download area of Subscription Support website. NOTE:  You must be logged in as a Subscription customer to see the link for the DWGeditor download.

If you are not familiar with the DWG Editor simply click here to get a closer look.
