SolidWorks 2009 Premium has
over 250 customer driven enhancements that make
transitioning to 3D easier and faster than ever.
Design
Better Products Faster with SolidWorks

Streamlined User Interface
With the heads-up user interface, you get a complete, customizable set of visual display and mouse-driven control capabilities. This reduces design steps, minimizes dialog boxes, and decreases visual clutter.
SWIFT
Instant3D
SWIFT™ (SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology). SWIFT let you spend time creating products that work well, instead of trying to make your software work for you. It automates time-consuming detail work and techniques, diagnosing and resolving problems related to feature order, mates, sketch relationships, and the application of dimensions.
Working with DWG
SolidWorks includes data translation tools for AutoCAD® users, along with help documentation, so you can smoothly convert DWG files into 3D models. Alternatively, you can use DWGeditor®–included with SolidWorks software–to edit, manipulate, and maintain existing AutoCAD DWG files in their native format.
Part
Modeling
With Instant3D, you have the fastest, easiest way to create and modify 3D part geometry. By simply clicking and dragging, you can precisely create and resize features–even section entities. As you ready your design for production, use DimXpert to create accurate 2D drawings (or “drawingless” data) to ensure your parts will fit when manufactured.
Reuse
existing designs to save time
Advanced Surfacing and Complex Shapes
Improve the aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability of your product designs. Using the Freeform feature, creating new geometry, or importing and manipulating new surfaces, is easy and intuitive.
Weldment Design

Sketch a layout for your frame and select a weldment profile. SolidWorks will automatically generate a weldment design in 3D. Modify, validate, and reinforce your design, and then enhance it with standard parts that you can drag and drop from the Design Library or 3D ContentCentral®. Then, generate precise manufacturing drawings with cut lengths for all segments.
Improve
your designs
TolAnalyst
TolAnalyst is a tolerance
analysis tool that determines the effect that tolerances
have on parts and assemblies. TolAnalyst allows users to
perform worst case tolerance stack up analysis on parts and
assemblies by informing the user which tolerances contribute
the most to potential design failure. Tolerances that do not
impact the design goal can be loosened to lower the
manufacturing cost. TolAnalyst helps ensure that designs
meet proper fit and function requirements while lowering
costs.
DFMXpress
DFMXpress is an up front
validation tool used to identify geometry that is difficult,
expensive, or impossible to manufacture by conventional
machining operations. DFMXpress can help reduce the time it
takes to consult with manufacturing specialists by
identifying to the designer geometry that may contribute
significantly to manufacturing problems.
Simulation
Design Insight
Design Insight allows the user to easily identify the areas
of a design that contribute most to structural integrity.
Once these critical areas are identified, the designer can
make informed decisions with respect to removing unnecessary
material or exploring other design alternatives. Design
Insight is an intuitive way to identify over-engineering and
reduce material costs in product designs.
SolidWorks MotionManager
The new
MotionManager consolidates Dynamic Assembly Motion, Physical
Simulation, Animation, and COSMOSMotion into a single,
easy-to-use interface. The new MotionManager has a key
frame-based timeline and controls motors, gravity, and
springs based on time. With a single setup, users can now
see how an assembly moves and how components interact,
create presentations, and obtain component velocities and
accelerations for validation purposes.
